Seek the invisible

Seek the unconscious

Seek the inexplicable

Seek the things you can’t name

but believe in

I’m not an artist.

Seek your identity

as a teenager watching

the light hit the dust

rather than talking to people

Silent kid. Loud inner world

I’m not an artist.

Step out of school

Step onto a stage

Seek your presence

In other people’s skin

Until it becomes too tight to breathe

I’m not an artist.

Step off. Flip the view

Seek your voice through someone else’s words

Camera in hand, get into artists’ heads

Move images to move yourself

Tell everything without saying anything

I’m not an artist.

Seek loss, grief, pain

Seek love, sex, gain

I’m not an artist.

Seek the memory of who’s no more

Seek the source

Seek the stillness

Seek the soul beyond the surface

And when you find it

Burn it.

Burn the answer

Burn the timeline

Burn your five-year plan

I’m not an artist

Seek the rituals that make you boil

The red light that makes you accelerate

Make a run until you touch the horizon

Then stop.

I’ve arrived

Right here right now

With a short breath

And a long-life question

Who am I?

If there was a shortcut that could have gotten me here 20 years ago, I wouldn’t take it.

All my memories, encounters, and scars are the materials I handle. My journey, is a journey of awareness.

We meet ourselves time and time again in a thousand disguises on the path of life.

The people we meet, the challenges we face, the situations we find ourselves in, reflect fragments of a space that seems unknown. Until you start to realise that the recurring element here is not the people, the challenges, the situations; it’s you.

My research and practice pushed me to dive into this dark territory, maybe even deeper than my almost 10 years of psychoanalysis. And while I am down there, sometimes I happen to encounter memories that are not mine, they are ours.

What is this space?

It’s not a physical space, yet it’s not void, it’s got no coordinates nor dimensions, it’s not subjected to time, yet it’s always in the present.

It’s a liminal space … between the material and the intangible, presence and absence, physical and spiritual, seen and unseen.

How do you seek a place that doesn’t want to be found?

Enter the darkness like you belong there

Offer to fire all your disguises

Naked, dance with the shadows of smoke

Let the wounds open as your lungs expand

Get lost

Release

Forget

why you came in the first place

It will emerge on its own.

Rituals are the way humans ask questions to other worlds.

Since the beginning and until the very end.

To reveal that in truth, there’s no beginning, there's no end.

Only transitions.

The blade of a flame

Destroys and creates

Openings

Connections

Traces Dialogue

Carl Jung said that “The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.”

My ritual happens in the darkroom.

A dance with fire, materials and chemicals.

As I get to get to the end of this journey

I now know that is just the beginning

My question remains the same:

Who am I?

My name is Martina Margaux

I am an artist.

A HUGE Thank you to the extraordinary humans

who accompanied me on this Journey.

May our paths cross again

and again

and again

and again

and again
